If you are looking for a quality electric skateboard, but you are on a tight budget, consider the Swagtron NG-1 Next Generation Motorized Skateboard. Whether you want to shred the half-pipe or travel from your apartment to the subway station, this board can fit your needs. Lightweight and sturdy, this well made board offers a quick recharge time, options like cruise control and wireless remote, and travels quite far before it needs recharging.
Features
The Swagtron NG-1 is a medium sized electric skateboard. It measures 32 inches long and weighs 9.5 pounds. Even though it is not the largest or smallest board on the market, it holds its own when compared to similar, competitor’s products.
The NG-1 has a strong, wide deck made up of 7 layers of high quality Canadian maple hardwood. The deck has just the right amount of flex to offer a comfortable ride. The surface is covered with a black, non-slip mat to keep you on the board. The shape of the board is unique; it is double nosed and offers two built in cut-out carry handles. The board travels on hard, long-lasting, polyurethane wheels that handle smooth surfaces with no trouble. Slightly rough surfaces, like bumpy asphalt, will cause the wheels to wear down more quickly than strictly riding on sidewalk.
The Swagtron NG-1 is powered by a wheel hub motor that will carry a teen or small adult rider around 10 miles before the battery needs recharged. The maximum speed for this board is 11 mph, on smooth and level surfaces. Rough surfaces, inclines, and heavier loads will result in quicker battery loss and slower speeds. The battery is a 24V Ion Lithium enclosed pack with an initial charge time of 3 hours, but recharges only take 90 minutes. This is one of the faster recharge times available among all models of electric skateboards.
The NG-1 comes standard with a wireless, rechargeable remote control that displays travelspeed and battery life, as well as controlling acceleration and deceleration, and setting the cruise control. This is easily done with the touch of a button. This handy feature allows the rider to start travelling at a desired speed, then set the cruise control to maintain that speed without having to make any further adjustments on the board or the remote.
The NG-1 is manufactured by Swagtron, a well respected company in the recreational personal transport area. Also known for scooters and hoverboards, the company has been around for a while and earned a reputation for good quality products and customer service. For the NG-1 electric skateboard, the company provides a limited one-year warranty which offers buyers protection against defects and parts failures.

Strengths
The Swagtron NG-1 offers a high-quality electric skateboard at an affordable, entry level price. The board is lightweight and easy to carry with the cut out handles in the deck. The wireless remote with cruise control allows the rider to easily control movement and speed without having to fiddle with buttons or switches under the deck. The high quality 7-layered, Canadian maple hardwood deck is wide and sturdy, offering strength without sacrificing comfort. The 24V Lithium Ion battery recharges in just 90 minutes, making this one of the fastest recharge times on the market.
Weaknesses
The battery life and range is very limited on this board. At the maximum speed of 11 mph and a maximum range of 10 miles, the battery is only going to stay charged for about an hour. For recreational riding or a very short commute, this might be okay with some people. However, it is substandard compared to many other electric skateboards on the market today.
