Swytch – Convert Any Bike Into An E-Bike

The Swytch conversion kit comes with several core components that allow you to transform any bike into an ebyke.

The engineers behind Swytch are focused on creating practical products that will help reduce carbon emissions at an affordable price point. If you are interested in funding them, make sure to checkout their IndieGoGo page to become a backer so you can get your hands one as soon as possible!

How it Works

Swytch ships with a replacement hub motor front wheel, a battery and several brackets and sensors. The power pack is mounted on your existing bikes handlebars and a cable is run down your front fork to the new hub mounted motor front wheel to power the motor.

The conversion kit also includes pedal and brake sensors, which send feedback to the battery to adjust output levels, improve efficiency and safety. Essentially these sensors work together to make sure you aren’t fighting the electric motor when trying to brake and to reduce/stop battery power to the motor when you decide to pedal the bike manually.

According to their IndiGogo page, the installation should only take you about 10 minutes.

Here is a great video that details the entire process from beginning to end.

What’s Included?

Their complete 50 mile conversion kit includes:

  • Hub Motor Wheel
  • Swytch Power Pack Battery
  • Mounting bracket
  • Handlebar bracket
  • Pedal sensor
  • Brake sensor
  • Charger
  • 36V 360Wh Li-Ion battery

Swytch is also compatible with a wide range of tire sizes including 16″, 20″, 24″, 26″, 27.5″, 700c & 29er(other sizes available upon request). While performance will vary slightly between different bicycle models, you can expect a top speed of roughly 15-30 mph (depending on the model you purchase) and a single charge range of 25-75 miles depending on the model you purchase and the power level you run. Where Can I Buy One?

There are only 7 days left (as of 12-8-2017) to back the Swytch team, so if you are interested, you can snag a 250w or 350w kit by April 2018 by becoming a backer on their IndieGoGo page.

If you’ve missed your chance to be a supporter, you should be able to purchase a Swytch kit on their website in the summer & fall of 2018.

Can’t Wait?

I did some digging and was surprised to find that these types of kits already exist! Just make sure that you take note of whether or not the kit includes a battery since many of them on this list explicitly state they DO NOT come with a battery.

Here are just a few alternatives I was able to find on Amazon.com:
