Description and Review

The Segway One S1 Unicycle is one of the easiest and trendiest ways to move from point A to point B. The S1’s faster than average top end speed, battery capacity, build quality & features absolutely blew us away. While it’s a fair bit pricier than some of it’s competitors, the extra costs translate into a more comfortable, fun & extremely well thought out product. It comes with customizable LED lights and designs to fit your style and a ton of other features that really give the S1 the edge in the Electric Unicycle market right now.

Features

Speed is definitely one of the top qualities that most users love about this ride. It falls on the higher rank in speed and mileage. With a top speed of 12.5 miles per hour, you can cover quite a distance. With great practice and an attitude that says, ‘I can do this!’, cruising at the top speed will be a no brainer for you.

You can also go as far as 15 miles on one charge. But in order to do that, you’ll have to charge your unicycle for up to 4 hours. It’s great really that it can go that far but the charging period can be a letdown. It really does take a while. I guess having a unicycle with two 155W lithium-ion batteries needs a lot of charging time.

One other feature that we really love about the Segway One S1 is the app. It’s a must for every electric ride to have an app but this one is a particularly a good one. It has levels you need to accomplish. In the beginning stages, the S1 limits your speed to 2.5 mph. After the activation, you are upgraded to a maximum speed limit of 4.3 mph until you complete the New Rider Tutorial. After accomplishing the tutorial, you are again upgraded to a speed limit of 7.5 mph and will go on with this speed until you cover 0.6 miles or exactly one kilometer of riding. Once you cover 1 kilometer, you already have the freedom to disable the speed limiter and run as fast as 12.5 mph.

The stages are great. It really teaches you how to master the S1. It also gives a great safety precaution for its new users. It’s like riding a balance bike before hitting a real bicycle. You practice, you check out what you can and cannot do with this ride and you’re off to perfection. If not in use, you can just carry it around with the handle; it’s not that heavy.

Have you ever had the difficulty in making a turn around the block with your ride? Well, maneuvering is also great with the S1. With great speed, you also need this to be agile. So, changing speed and direction is all just a matter of shifting your weight. Shift to the right to turn to the right, lean forward to speed up. It’s intuitive and easy (and fun!) to learn.

Strengths

You are in for a treat in arriving at your destination in style and in speed. With a maximum speed of about 12.5 miles per hour with a distance of about 15 miles depending on the terrain and the riding style—it’s great that weight is not a factor with this ride—this unicycle can really outrun and outdistance its competitors. It also has a great training feature that allows its users to safely learn how to use the unicycle and develop lesser problems due to inexperience.

Weaknesses

No gadget is perfect and the Segway One S1 unicycle is not an exception. Unfortunately, it is not something that people should expect to ride immediately on the get go. You need a lot of training and practice to use it before you can actually go on trekking with it. This is not a ride for everyone since it is pretty difficult to ride— unless you have the tenacity to keep at it, then you’ll love riding this unicycle.

Top Of The Line!

Overall, the S1 is a great ride that adds flare and speed to your daily tasks. Whether you are at home going around doing chores or running for errands for mom, you'll enjoy every minute of it with the Segway One S1. This unicycle is a great ride but it takes quite a while to master and needs your determination to make up for a great ride. It runs smooth on flat and even ground; but has great difficulty in trodding rocky and gravelly terrain. In conclusion, this is a great ride-able that swings towards a chic and convenience at the expense of great tenacity for practice.
