Description and Review
When you think of scooters, the name Razor immediately pops into your mind. Originally makers of kick to ride handlebar equipped scooters for kids, the company has grown and expanded into the world of motorized scooters. Their Razor Pocket Mod is one of the newest models and it features the same looks and features as many of the more expensive brands, only on a much smaller scale.
Features
The Razor brand has been around since the late 1990’s and gained popularity in 2000 when their folding Razor micro scooter was mass produced and sold all over the world. Since that time, the Razor company has grown and expanded to provide a wider variety of products to a wider consumer group. One factor in Razor’s popularity is the relatively low cost of their products. Originally marketed as toys, Razors scooters now come in stand up and sit down models with and without electric motors. Increasing numbers of adults are purchasing Razor scooters for personal use.
The Razor Pocket Mod Electric Scooter is a retro look ride on scooter that reminds you of a classic Vespa or Bugotti. The wide, step through steel frame is generous and sturdy. Enameled, powder coated paint in turquoise, mint, pink, black, or purple and a thick, white padded seat adds to the old time feel.
The Razor Pocket Mod will travel for up to 10 miles, about 40 minutes, on a single charge of the 12 V sealed, lead and acid battery. Battery recharging takes 12 hours using a standard household outlet and included recharging cable.
A chain driven, high torque motor provides smoth acceleration and gradual speed increases up to a maximum of 15 mph, controlled by the adjustable speed hand grip throttle. Max speed travel could shorten battery life by 10%, so it might be better to travel a bit slower unless you are in a hurry
A hand operated rear wheel brake provides gradual slowing for safety, but it is necessary to release the throttle and begin naturally slowing before applying the brake. Slamming on the brakes for a sudden stop is not possible with this scooter.
The 12″ pneumatic, rubber tires provide traction and a quiet ride both indoor and outdoors, on a variety of hard packed surfaces. The Pocket Mod travels easily over concrete, gravel, packed dirt, and firm grassy terrain. An additional rear shock gives you a smooth ride over bumpy surfaces.
Rider comfort has been considered when designing this scooter. The thick foam, padded and quilted seat is comfortable and sturdy. A hidden compartment under the seat is perfect for carrying a cell phone, small notebook, or set of keys. A bright front headlight illuminates your route and makes you visible to motorists and pedestrians. A spring loaded, retractable kick stand holds your scooter up when you are not riding.

Strengths
The Razor Pocket Mod is backed by Razor’s customer service and warranty. This compact, retro look scooter is perfect for a teenager or small adult to run errands or visit friends and neighbors. The heavy steel construction and high quality chain driven motor will last a long time. 12″ pneumatic tires allow travel over a variety of surfaces with little resistance. Operation is easy with the twist grip accelerator and hand operated rear brake. Kids will love the look of this little scooter.
Weaknesses
Even though this is a step up from a child’s toy, it is still not on the level of actual personal transport scooters. The range and speed are not comparable and the recharge time is too long. This unit does come unassembled, so you can’t just ride it right out of the box. The storage compartment under the seat is a nice idea, but it is too small to put much into.
