Description and Review

IPS centers its production in developing unicycles and one of them is the IPS191 Xima. IPS has been so popular that most of their unicycles sold in the market are known for great quality, great speed and great performance that meet everyone’s basic, daily and leisurely needs. We were pretty blown away by our first impressions of the XIMA, but a bit worried about some of the issues users were encountering in Amazon’s reviews of the product. Here is our personal take on the IPS-191.

This model has been discontinued. Check out our Electric Monocycle article for more options!

Features

This 191 is  fairly water & dust resistant because the shell hugs the wheels tightly allowing less space for dust, dirt & mud to penetrate it’s casing. The IPS 191 Xima Lhotz is built with aviation grade aluminum alloy, which is incredibly light weight & strong.

This ride features a large 16-inch air-filled wheel, which is great for rougher terrains like gravel, grass and dirt trails. It still struggles with sand & muddy areas, but generally does really well under difficult off-road conditions. It is pretty quiet in the streets and offers a stable ride on the sidewalk and on the trails.

The 191 Xima-Lhotz has a phone app that allows you to set speed limits. You will first need to unlock each level by riding your unicycle for certain distances. Once one level is unlocked, you get rewarded by a faster speed limit. The large single wheel, powerful battery and strong motor means you’ll be able to reach up to 45 miles per charge under the right conditions.

It has an average speed of 13 miles per hour. However, this can change depending on the weight of the rider, the condition of the trail, and the weather.  So if all conditions are good, on a paved road and you weigh less than 150 pounds, then you might just be able hit the 191’s max speed.

Strengths

The IPS191 Xima-Lhotz has superb hardware. The Aviation grade aluminum alloy provides a lightweight but extremely sturdy body capable of supporting an impressive 265 lbs. It also has a great battery life & a monstrous  1000 watt motor, you are guaranteed extremely long distances with less visits to the charging station. You can also enjoy great outdoor activity with the IPS191 due to its huge single wheel and wider air-filled tires. The IPS-191 can trek over rough road conditions & difficult terrain thanks to it’s huge 16″, wide single wheel design. We love the IPS-191 for it’s attention to detail. The aesthetics are on point, and every design choice is equal parts visually pleasing & functional. Thanks in large part to it’s clever design, the frame & casing make the 191 incredibly dust & water resistant.

Weaknesses

It is not UL2272 certified and some users have experienced faulty wiring issues that have rendered it completely useless after a year of frequent use. It really is a shame, because if it wasn’t for the handful of bad units that they shipped out, The IPS-191 absolutely destroys the competition in nearly every other category.

Cautiously Optimistic

While the IPS-191 looks like an absolutely amazing machine at first glance, It worries us that IPS has had so many users reporting hardware issues. The questionable build quality aside, This unicycle boasts a massively powerful 1000w motor, the longest battery life & range on the market & to top it all off, it also can hit an incredible 22 mph top speed.
